The Shops at Crystals

Las Vegas, NV

The Shops at Crystals, located at the heart of CityCenter on the Las Vegas strip, is a 500,000-sq.ft. retail and entertainment hub. Its stunning architecture showcases retail units within stainless steel-clad crystalline structures around its perimeter. These units are interlinked by an indoor arcade, boasting designs by the Rockwell Group and artworks by WET Design. Above, the roof’s intricate interlocked patterns have skylights, illuminating the arcade with natural light. Notably, it's the world’s largest retail facility with a LEED Gold certification, highlighting its environmental responsibility.

Covering an entire city block, this iconic structure was a massive endeavor in terms of its design, geometry, and timeline. Structural steel was prominently used, evident in the sloping columns and long roof trusses, which feature a 90-ft cantilever at the entrance. Retail floors were designed with structural steel to enhance layout flexibility and to accommodate future changes. Construction began merely three months after the design phase, with a phased approach for the steel framing. A comprehensive BIM approach was critical to maintain the schedule and define the building's precise construction geometry.
